HISTORY
1932 -2023
A 90+ year journey!
1932
To talk about our history properly, we must go back to 1932, the year in which the first glass insulator was manufactured at the Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja, then under the name of Sociedad Cooperativa Esperanza S.A. (ESA). This acronym is still currently used to identify our insulators.
1946
1946: the Insulator Testing Laboratory came into operation.
1958
The automated manufacture of toughened glass string insulators began.
1973
And it is in 1973 when the new laboratory for electrical, mechanical and dimmensional testing of insulators is established and inaugurated.
1985
More than 25 million insulators were installed in Spanish power lines.
1997
In 1997, Saint-Gobain La Granja, S.L. was created.
2010
Launch of the company's own RTV insulators brand: Silglass
2016
The year 2016 arrives, and with it more changes. SGD becomes Verescence. World leader in the manufacture of glass for the beauty industry. Under the Verescence group, it was decided to rename the Insulators as La Granja Insulators.
1933
This first insulator was destined for the Spanish National Telephone Company (98 tons were sold that year). As the glass was very well accepted by the market, the model range was increased, offering models for Low and High Voltage.
1957
Years later, in 1957, construction of the new, more modern factory began on a nearby site. This new location is the place from which we continue to export insulators all over the world today. The old factory, which forms part of our history, is today a site declared an Asset of Cultural Interest that houses entities such as the National Glass Centre Foundation and the Glass Technology Museum.
1959
Our insulators began to be installed in Spanish power lines.
1975
In 1975 Vidrierías Españolas S.A. took over Sociedad Esperanza S.A. and together with Compagnie de Saint Gobain created a new glass company: Vicasa.
1989
First 500 kV line: Alto Jahuel-Polpaico (72 km in Chile).
2007
In 2007, it was bought by the Sagard & Cognetas investment fund association and renamed SGD La Granja, S.L.
2011
First 765 kV line: Perseus-Beta (2x14 km in South Africa).
2022
Xpertise Smart Insulation: In addition to the manufacture and supply of insulators, the company incorporates a new service of consulting and predicitive monitoring
